Canary's an Iranian Jewish joint on Westwood, across from Feast from the East. I had ghormeh sabzi, dizi, and a few other dishes from there tonight, and they were quite tasty. The textures were good, and the ingredients pretty fresh, although they weren't perfect. The dizi was a bit of a surprise, since it's kind of a smooth meat-and-bean paste, with a nice sauce. One of the appetizers was eggplant puree, pretty much, and was alright, but not amazing. The other, though, "traditional mixed vegetables" in vinegar, was great. The lavash that came with the meal tasted pretty good, but was a little tough. They have a few unusual things, like chicken with sour cherries and salmon kebabs, that I didn't get to taste, and they also have both kinds of Persian ice cream (faloudeh and bastani), plus rice pudding, none of which I tried. Probably, the ice creams are from Mashti Malone's, but I'm not sure. It's definitely worth a return visit.
