I work in the city of Monrovia, which is not exactly a culinary mecca but does have a few interesting places.
The one that I'd like to mention is Diron's Canadian Style Take Out Cafe, which opened last year in the downtown area. The menu categories are rather basic -- hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, and so on. But certain menu items have a Canadian twist. For example, you can get a sandwich with "peameal" bacon. The french fry choices include french fries with gravy or poutine. And for dessert they offer imported Canadian chocolate bars.
The cafe is filled with Canadian memorabilia -- flags, maps, magazines, and so on. And the take-out menu includes a glossary of Canadian phrases, such as "some fun."
I'm impressed with the owners for trying something so offbeat, and I hope they succeed.
