Restaurants & Bars 6

Campannina, my new fav

How can there be so many wonderful and different style Italian restaurants in one city? There are only 7 nights in a week....what's chowhound to do??

We really enjoyed our experience at Campannina on Union at Octavia last Fri. night. It was hot, hot, hot in SF that night so any spot in the restaurant or even outside was filled with "still air." We did not take the time to really examine the restaurant layout or decor.

I knew I was in the right place when our Capri born waiter just started talking. Something about that accent just does it for me................! He was efficient, helpful, attentive and personable.

So many menu items seemed appealing so we got a big variety. Squid ink on the menu gave us the impression there is a Venetian slant to the style.

We started with a Zucchini blossom as a daily special app. Lightly fried, crispy and tasty it was stuffed with Buff Mozz. Yummy. You can't miss with a Caprese salad at this time of the tomato harvest. The Warm Beet salad and the Mista were also abundant and a good balance of dressing and ingredients.

Entrees chosen were the Seafood mixed grill (simple and classic and cooked to perfection), Halibut special on Squid ink Risotto ( much flavor), Salmon with zucchini (so good that the guest finished it before she remembered she had agreed to share) and I chose the Pappardelle and Wild Boar Ragu (a dish that brought back memories as I've only had it in Italy).

Prices were not outlandish.

We really enjoyed our experience and plan on adding it to my list of regular haunts since there are more menu items that intrigued us.
