Cambridge Common disappointment

rxrfrx | Oct 29, 2005 07:48 AM

Went to Cambridge Common (Mass Av between Harvard and Porter) last night.

Wanted to try the Sam Adams 375 beer, and according to a feature on beeradvocate.com, they have it there.

Waitress informed us that although there were initially plans to sell the beer, they "fell through."

Reluctantly ordered some food and other beers.

Two rare burgers came out rare and medium-rare. Fries were decent but lacked any kind of crispness.

Fried pickles were tasty and crisp but awfully expensive... coming in at about $1 for each pickle spear (we got 5 on a plate). Dipping sauces were two different bottled-tasting salad dressings. Ew.

Meatloaf was good, although a bit overseasoned with thyme. It came with a surprisingly good ear of sweet corn on the cob.

Service was generally bad... a companion asked "what beers do you have that are lighter in flavor?" The waitress's response was "uh...hmm... we have Miller Lite..." And then our food came about 10 minutes later, before the beers showed up.

The $5 burger is a good deal but I don't think I'll be coming back for a while.
