Went to a five course dinner w/ matching beers at the Cambridge Brewing Co. in Kendall Sq. Sat. which was a pretty good deal at $40. They had a much more adventurous menu than usual which was decent for the most part. The cream of mushroom soup w/ lobster was probably best, and a large portion for a 1st course (as were all the courses). Three of us had pretty good venison, one had snapper and there was frisse salad w/ grilled shrimp, smoked hen salad, pate and salmon mousse in between. My biggest complaint was that the food needed to be hotter and the servers brought the next course before clearing all the plates and glasses from our table which was annoying. But the brewer was very friendly and informative, esp. since one of our party is a home brewer. Dessert was either a cheese plate or coffe pot de creme which was more like a thick chocolate mousse but tasty nonetheless. Served with tastes of three years of barley wine. I can't comment on the beers that much, they seemed fine but I'm not a real beer drinker. Altho their porter didn't taste as good to me as the Tremont Ale one I had at another brewer's dinner.
Another pleasant meal at McCormick and Schmick's in the Park Plaza with parmesan crusted grey sole, mashed pot. and thing asparagus and juliened carrots. My friend had a great spinach salad and lots of rare tuna. We split creme brulee cuz I couldn't handle the awesome apple dessert but it was very good. Sweet waiter, a very dependable place IMHO.
