Hi everyone -- we are meeting for dinner at 6:30 this Friday evening (March 11) at Island Cafe for dinner. Email me at the above eddress if you would like to join us.

The Island Café in San Mateo;

This is the new Malaysian restaurant on 4th Ave
(111 East 4th Ave., 650-548-1386).

Ask for Kim Cooper.

Someone asked for some details, so here is what I answered, in case you are interested:

Since we will most likely be ordering off of the menu, I have no idea what the price will be. Usually in Chinese restaurants we order one dish per person, so I guess we will do that here too. Here are some ideas of the prices on the menu:

>Roti Canal (Indian pancake) $3.50 (others have recommend this dish)

>Lobak $6.95

>Shrimp Puff $5.95 (we had this.Yummm!)

>Lamb Rendang $8.95( we liked this a lot too)

>Golden Spareribs $8.85

>Aromatic Chicken $8.95

>Watercress Belacan $7.95 (good)

>Eggplant Malaysian style $7.95

>Deep Fried Seabass $15.95

>Sambal Prawn and Mixed Seafood $12.95

>Clay Pot Pearl noodle $6.95

>Singapore Fried Rice $7.95

>White rice $1.00

>Pad Thai $7.50

That was a fairly random selection off of a long menu. I hope it gives you an idea. It looks a bit higher than some Chinese, but not as high as something like Straits.
For the two of us, with Lichee drinks (non-alcoholic), it was about $40 before tip.
