There are about four things I miss from my four years in Los Angeles. Topping the list are those California salads. Huge, with the freshest greens (NO ICEBERG), great vegetables, flavorful dressing and unusual pairings/flavor combinations. My favorite was the Cobb from California Chicken Cafe...with broccoli, rotini and pita chips added to the usual Cobb, it was big enough for two people to split for lunch and still be stuffed.
Really though, the key was fresh, flavorful and filling...they were everywhere. Not these small, wimpy, boring "make your own" things that places like PAX serve up. Is there any hope (preferably below 34th Street), or will I have to wait until business gets me to the west coast?
