So, as we do whenever we can, we attended the "Hogs for the Cause" event, and brought a few friends along. It was a gorgeous Spring day in City Park, and (apparently) 30,000 others decided to come along . . .
Nearly everything was delicious, until --
So the five of us are walking past the back end of the Judge's Tent on our way to get some more beer, when someone from inside calls to us and says, "Hey! Y'all wanna judge the competition?" We stop. For some (idiotic) reason, I said I was on my way to get a beer, to which the gentleman replied, "We got free beer for the judges!"
GOD, I work cheap!
All I can say is that it's a lot different than judging wine. For one thing you don't spit.
I judged the "Whole Hog" -- and even then, only tried six different booths' worth of hog. And after that, who could eat more? Well, apparently a lot of people, 'cuz for three of the other judges at my table, this was their fourth round!
As always, though, it was a great (and delicious) event.
