Went to this cozy spot on Cahuenga on the edge of Studio City for lunch on Friday - not overly impressive, food wise, but I think we hit the wrong dish.
I adore the space - very warm and rustic, with all kinds of cool authentic artwork. And yes, they have a dozen or so clocks set to 7:50, but there's no significance to that (at least not that they will divulge).
The bread basket arrived immediately but was not impressive - plain white bread, nothing exciting. My 2 companions and I all ordered the same lunch special: Linguini with Salmon and Pesto sauce.
They chose salads as an opening course - small but fresh and colorful, with a light vinegarette dressing. Not overly dressed, too, I might add - which is refreshing.
I started with the tomato soup - which was just eh. Very salty, not enough basil/herbs, and not exactly fresh tasting. It was clearly made on the premise, but lacking the Wow factor.
The linguini itself was perfectly al dente and yummy -that's the good part. The salmon was bland (well cooked, but not overly fresh), and I really wasn't too hip on the pesto sauce - it was very creamy, and again, not nearly enough basil/flavor - just, you guessed it, salty.
Service, by the way, was brisk and attentive - definitely no complaints there.
I've had far better experiences at this place, however, so this is not meant to steer 'Hounds clear of the location as a whole - just the pesto. And maybe the salmon too.
