Calif St Deli @ the JCC in SF

Arnie | Jan 23, 200604:28 PM

I stopped by today for a tongue sandwich & cole slaw (quite good) at the newly opened California St Deli in the lobby of the JCC at its main entrance on Calif off Presidio Ave (tele:415-922-DELI). It's open from 11AM to 9PM for sit-down and take-out. Since they do not have their web site up and running yet, here are some of the items from their printed menu:

-chicken soup with matzo balls
-potato latkes
-blintzes (with apple-huckleberry compote or sour cream)
-pickled or sour cream herring
-stuffed cabbage
-cold sandwiches, including tongue and chopped liver
-warm sandwiches including niman ranch braised brisket,
corned beef, pastrami
-scrambled eggs with matzo brei (or pastrami, lox)
-potato knish
-noodle kugel
-kasha varnishkes
-combo sandwiches (e.g. reuben)
-dinner plates from 4-9PM include braised brisket,
Hungarian veal goulash, Romanian steak, meatloaf
-egg cream

The deli also sells their deli meats and smoked fish by the pound, and their salads and sides by the pint.
