The Cajun Restaurant in Chelsea

Anybody ever eat at The Cajun restaurant on 8th Avenue in Chelsea? I'd heard good things about it, and the atmosphere, decor and music entertainment met my expectations, but I thought the food was mediocre at best. Got the "Taste of New Orleans" sampler, which for $37 for two was MORE than enough food. But I thought the traditional jambalaya lacked any real zing, the creole chicken, while tender, was in a left-something-to-be desired sauce, and the crawfish etoulle (sp) seemed a little flat. The popcorn shrimp was good, though, the crabcakes were passable, although I thought the coating the was a tad peppery (I know it's New Orleans cooking and you should expect spiciness, but the flavor of the coating overwhelmed what was actually a nice bread and crab meat filling). Also, the gumbo starter left a bit of an odd, bitter aftertaste I'm not familiar with. Was there too much okra?

Was it a bad night or does this place coast on it's New Orleans music nights and atmosphere and pay less-than-appropriate attetnion to the cuisine?

Anybody? Bueller?
