I'm thrilled to be returning to New Orleans in October for my second trip. For the first few days of the trip, my boyfriend will be tied up at a convention in town -- so I thought I would use his hotel as a home base, and take day trips. I would like to visit Cajun Country, as I have heard there is amazing food there --but from what I understand, most of it may be too far away for a day trip.
Can you recommend trips that fall within a two hour drive from NO that would include wonderful local food? Any suggestions for non-food ideas that aren't horribly touristy would also be welcome. I love to find out of the way places that show me what the true personality of a place is like -- but remember, I'll be a woman travelling alone, so I have to take safety into account. Thanks for any advice you can give!
