My wife, 19 year-old son, and I will be in New Orleans for several days next week. I've gotten a lot of good ideas for food and music on this board, and appreciate all the input from the regular posters. We have res at a couple of places for dinner (Cochon, Shaya), but I'm a little stuck and hope to get some insights from the board.
My son and I love all kinds of food and it'll be his first time in the city, so we'd like to go to someplace for lunch or dinner that serves dishes like jambalaya, red beans and rice, crawfish etouffee, gumbo, and other classics. I realize that there are a lot of places like that, but we have a couple of complications: (1) My wife is a vegetarian and (2) my son is under 21. Seems like most of the restaurants that might meet the description get mixed reviews online, and at some the only thing that's vegetarian is the butter. My wife's a good sport and doesn't need a lot of options at this place, and we'll be going to other restaurants that look good for all of us (Shaya, Good Karma), but she will want to eat something.
So, are there restaurants that might fit this particular bill? We'd prefer FQ, CBD, Garden District, or Uptown (we're staying in the Garden District and don't have a car but are happy to take the streetcar). And while I've got you on the line, are there places you'd recommend for a crawfish boil?
Thanks very much!
