I'd love a topic on French cafeterias, and other European ones for that matter. I've had lovely simple meals at the best of them. Many are only for employees, of course, but there are cafeterias open to the general public.
You might Google the RestoU s, cafeterias that serve university students. They are throughout Paris, one of the best being on, as I remember, Mabillon. In the distant past, I think they were open to the public but at a higher cost than to students. That may or may not still be true.
I found a directory at

Most of my meals during fifteen years at ten universities ranging over a good part of North America were on a meal ticket. Thank you for enabling me to do comparative dorm food! Oh, boy!
One of my major formative food experiences was the dorm cafeteria .
The site was not so easy to find on Google. "Restou" is something popular in Portuguese and there were a few pages of such entries that come up first.
Folks, let's keep the discussion focussed on Chow in Paris. We've removed some posts here.
