Café Tropé

This place has taken over the space that was once 21 P and has seemed to be vacant forever. We stopped by the other night after having perused their menu from the outside. The prices seemed low for "entrees" and it turns out there was a reason - this is essentially a tapas place. For some reason that didn't really seem apparent to us from the menu posted outside but perhaps we should have inferred it.

Anyhow the menu claims to be "French Caribbean" and for all I know it could be. The waiter did the usual tapas spiel of "3 or 4 plates if you're hungry," though we stuck with 2 each. I got the lobster bisque, which was good, especially sopped up with some of the great bread they provided. I also got the crab cake which was pretty good. We split a side of mashed potatoes and they were very rich and creamy.

I'm not a big fan of tapas-style dining as I'm never sure how big a portion I'm going to get, though I realize you get to try more dishes than would with one big entree. We left Café Tropé and as we passed Alberto's we couldn't help but stop in and split a slice of Hawaiian pizza on the way home...
