I think Cafe Sushi deserves its own thread and previous dedicated ones are a bit old. Gabatta's excellent review here first tipped me off to this place: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/9132... A friend and I had a mind-blowing omakase there in early December. We returned last night and had another stellar omakase that was 100% different, in terms of fish, progression, presentation and everything. We were very plesantly surprised, having both experienced somewhat rote omakases at other establishments. As with last time, we ended up receiving everything that was on the extensive specials board and more. I should have taken more pictures and/or notes, but I believe we started with two courses of sashimi (one with teeny slices of candied kumquats, the next with juliened veggies and ikura that was insanely good), then moved to two courses of 4 nigiri each (including a mind-boggling kombu-cured fluke that was a total umami bomb), then a course of I think it was sunomono-style (lightly pickled cucumber and 3 kinds of seaweed) with ankimo torchons and another fish I am blanking on and a fabulously crispy fish skeleton, and a finale of torched salmon belly and avocado with some sort of preserved fig. These last two are pictured. There may have been one more course I have forgotten. This is not as thorough a report as such an amazing meal deserves, I was distracted by the food. Interestingly, our meal was prepared by quite a young chef under the eagle eye of the man who was clearly in charge -- but it was definitely the young man's creation. Omakase is $70 per and as before, we felt it was a very good value.
