I posted about this last night, but it seems to have either not made it or gotten knocked out.
A guy (Ken Hoffman?) posted in response to my query re places to eat in Los Gatos where we were attending a Scrabble tourney this past weekend.
We went there on Sunday and it was great. I had a Quiche Lorraine that was out of this world - one of the best i've ever had. It came with a good-sized green salad (baby lettuces). My hubby got a panino with roasted peppers, artichokes and mozzarella di bufala. I had a bite and it was also delicious. A friend had a turkey and other stuff panino which he was very happy with but didn't share. The coffe was also fine. The place has an outdoor patio with umbrellas and is not in the buzy part of downtown. It's on East Main - across the freeway in a smaller section of downtown near the high school. The whole experience was pleasant and relaxing. We told the owner (he's from Sienna and has banners and posters of the Palio d'Asti on the walls) that we heard of the place on Chowhound...he never heard of it but was flattered.
AND THEN.....We came back home and went to Christopher's Burgers on College for a quick burger. We were too pooped from driving and playing to want to go to a real restaurant and Christopher's is close.
What a huge disappointment! The place has been going downhill for some time. Apparently the owner doesn't hang around much. The burgers were charred on the outside and totally well-done (we asked for med. rare). There was no Dijon or hot mustard either ("We don't have any hot mustard."). The fries tasted of well-used and old oil. All in all it was terrible. We'll go to Barney's only after this.
