It's happened. Quietly. But quite definitely. No more trekking out to Brooklyn. The days of the coffee pilgrimmage are over. I might even be able to cut down a little now that I won't have to justify the trip by having one cappucino too many not knowing when I'll be able to sneak back. Now I can get my fix right near my East Village digs. So I sound like I ought to go easy on the caffeine but you don't know about a friend of mine who booked a flight from San Francisco after reading that very special New Yorker review. He figured if the New Yorker was writing about Cafe Regular, he should get the next flight out. He wasn't disappointed.
Yes, the coffee and the baked goods are great. Every week they're adding more hours and more goodies. I'm told there'll be wine in the evenings too -small producers. And the decor is kind of French Laundry in the way that other place is kind of miniature Balthazar. It's in the lobby of a theater and every now and then someone really interesting like Dennis Quaid or Drew Barrymore walks past your table but you're too busy with your coffee to really notice.
