Cafe Marcella--Los Gatos

Ken Hoffman | Feb 23, 200307:16 PM

Sure it's a bit fuddy duddy, but the service is stellar. Cafe Marcella is always packed and the volume is at the high end. Lots of good spirit
and conviviality. The food? Well its solid and maybe stolid, old fashioned food that brings back memories of Mom and Dad. The cuisine is billed as authentic Italian but is more like authentic Cali-Ital with the usual suspects on the menu. I tried the mushroom soup (wonderful), the clam fettucini (too few clams, too many strands pasta) the steak (glazed with a surprisingly light butter sauce),and the rack of lamb (beautifully presented and cooked nicely to order--the rare side of medium rare). It is a really nice place to dine with good friends. The food ,though not daring, is nicely respectfully prepared and presented.
