Cafe Istanbul

I went to the touted Cafe Istanbul in Sheepshead Bay on Saturday night. I thought is was good, but not great. They didn't have two dishes I tried to order, the waiter then recommended something (I forget what it was called) and I said okay. It ended up being two spicy lamb sausages with a small side of rice and a huge side of sliced raw red onion. The sausage was like merguez and it was good, but, for myself, I have a hard time just eating two giant sausages with nothing else. My friends are both vegetarians and they ordered two dishes, both like pizzas one with feta and spinach and the other with tomatoes and some other cheese. The second had a little bite to it. We had an eggplant salad appetizer that was excellent and the grape leaves which were fine. I don't really like stuffed grape leaves. No matter how fresh they are made they always seem like they've been sitting in a refrigerator for a week.
What have other folks experiences been with this place? Other Turkish recommendations? I haven't been to Sahara's on Coney Island Ave yet, but I plan to.
