This week is Café Hiro's first anniversary, and it must have been a very successful first year because Hiro is offering some very generous lunch deals this week. Unfortunately, these special prices are only available Thursday and Friday (March 6 and 7), but if you're anywhere near the Cypress area at lunch time you should check it out.
Hiro's regular pasta and curry lunch specials, which include soup and salad, are only $3.50. The pasta specials include a delicious and unusual oba mint and pickled plum combination, and the curries include chicken cutlet, wild mushroom (awesome), beef, etc. Probably the best Japanese curry around, if you like that style.
There are also some daily specials listed on the board for $3.50, which also include soup and salad. Today the specials were fried chicken cutlet, pasta carbonara, "takara" green pasta, and some other dish I don't remember. I had the carbonara today, and it was better than carbonara that I've paid $10 to $15 for elsewhere (and that was without soup or salad) - smoky pancetta, a delicious egg and parmigiana reggiano sauce, perfectly al dente pasta. It also came with four slices of foccacia.
For less than the price of what you'd pay for a crHappy meal at a fast food joint, you can enjoy delicious Franco/Italo/Japanese food in a civilized setting. I wish more successful chefs were this generous.
address: 10509 Valley View (corner of Valley View and Cerritos Ave.); get there early or late - lunch hours are 11:30 to 3:00 PM (it was near capacity, but not full when I arrived at 1:45 today).
