Cafe El Metate - Pasadena (again!)

WildSwede | Apr 13, 200503:54 PM

I know, I posted about this place last week, but I HAD TO post again after my lunch there yesterday. I ordered their "specialty" Fish Taco and an Al Pastor Torta. Sheer HEAVEN!! The Fish Taco ($1.99) is smallish but I determined that it is so worth it... the small, moist, white nuggets of fish are not breaded (only sprinkled with either salt or seasoning salt) and then lightly grilled. Served on a corn tortilla with lettuce (may have been cabbage), tomato, onions and cilantro. When I asked the lady what they put in it she mentioned salsa which I did not detect as I slathered on their fiery salsa roja. I will ask again next time, as this will be a standard item in my future orders.
The Al Pastor Torta ($4.99) was amazing as well - one of the best (if not THE) I have ever had. Bread is grilled on top and bottom, beans spread on the top half, then the usual lettuce, tomato, onions, avocado (or guacamole), meat, mayonnaise. SO DAMN GOOD!! So fresh and flavorful.
12 N Mentor, Pasadena (just north of Colorado Blvd.)
