Cafe de Laos

--susan | Jan 11, 2005 10:46 AM

We've been to Cafe de Laos (11th and Wash) a couple of times in the last couple of weeks -- it's officially my new favorite neighborhood restaurant. I'm so pleased to agree with the previous good reviews of this place.

The beef jerky is addictive...great snack. Preserved pork, which is close to the texture of minced prosciutto, was spicy (not uncomfortably so, but there was heat) and served as a generously portioned salad. They do a good tom kha gai, which is one of my favorite soups. The 'taste of Thai' sampler app is a couple bucks more than I would have expected, but it's actually a nice selection. The noodle dish with cashews was good, but not as distinctively Thai/Laotian.

Looking forward to working my way through the menu, item by item. Prices are mostly in the $5-12 range, with some specials that are more expensive. Service has been wonderful and friendly. Despite being in a pretty boring-looking building, they did a great job of making the interior warmly attractive.
