I was passing by Cafe on the Common, on Main Street in Waltham (opposite where Moody hits Main), and decided to stop in for the first time ever (notwithstanding that I've driven by it a couple-hundred-thousand times). The atmosphere was very relaxed, with numerous people sitting around and chatting quietly, or reading their Sunday paper, or working on their laptops. The food selection looked inviting, so I ordered a double latte (a second shot should be standard in their small latte, like at Peet's, but that's a gripe for another day) and a blueberry scone. The blueberry scone was fairly awful -- it was rubbery enough that I suspect it would have bounced back to me if I had dropped it on the floor -- but the latte was great.
Given the nice atmosphere, the non-Starbucksness of the place, and the great latte, I certainly will give it another chance. And as long as the great latte was not an anomoly, I'll even forgive the place if the bad food was not an anomoly either. It's just nice to have a place like this to go to in the area.
