Café Cicchetti - Flemington, NJ

jerseybill52 | Nov 11, 201501:11 PM     1

There is a new place in Flemington called Café Cicchetti. Recently opened, this BYOB café serves up what is a take on a Venetian dish called Cicchetti. We Americans might think of it more as an Italian style of Spanish tapas. Small dishes of meats, cheeses, vegetables, pastas, olives, seafood items. Many things. By way of disclaimer I must state that my wife and I have been regular customers of the chef – Chef Jean – since 2002. So you know we have found her to be good at what she does for a long time now Formerly of Andiamo in Lambertville and Za in Pennington Chef Jean now brings her Culinary Institute of America training to Café Cicchetti.
The Café has a Charcuterie menu and a cheese menu of small plates as well as some olive, roasted peppers and such vegie items. A mix of items. Also mains if you want. Pasta and such. For starters we had a Charcuterie plate of three meats – Serrano ham, Cappacollo, and Salumi al Barolo (which was really good). This came with three nice warm assorted bread rolls. Next an order of (mini) crab cakes, I think there were four, maybe five. Remember this is small plate style. Next a special – Lobster ravioli. There was the ravioli along with pieces of lobster meat and a big piece of lobster claw. (Not the whole claw – but a BIG piece.) After that, an interlude of white bean hummus. For the wrap up we got the sausage special of the day – Duck with foie gras on a bed of quinoa and wild rice. It was really good. Although we wanted to try them we passed on the Shrimp sautéed with red chili flakes and garlic salt because we were just too full. Total price for five items - $57 and a few cents with the tax added on. The Lobster ravioli special was $17 and the Duck sausage special was $8. So average prices other than HIGH end specials are $8 or $9 and there is enough for two people to share in each item.
Our server was Grace who showed much grace and attention throughout the meal. We were never left wanting for attention. Although it is a bit of a drive form our Trenton area home to Flemington we will be back. Open Tuesday to Saturday lunch and dinner. Sunday for brunch.
They do need to get a real restaurant web page. Soon.
This is what they have now.
