Just went to Providence for the first time yesterday and, having been to this board, we tried a couple of different places and loved them. Thanks! The one time we strayed from your suggestions we paid for it. Cafe Choklad on N. Main and Thomas Streets was a real disappointment. The coffee was watery and the lemon bars a gelatinous mess. The bagels were bready rings that did not have the taste or consistency of a real bagel. I have gotten better stuff from my university dining services, and that says a lot. Service left a lot to be desired also. The owner would not even give us a glass of water with our meal--she insisted we buy the bottled stuff. When we asked a server for parking meter change, he looked wearily over at the owner and had to sneak us the change. I was wondering whether any of you have had similar experiences there because that was extraordinary for us.
