Just had a great meal at Cafe Catalina in Redondo Beach. This is a tiny restuarant with perhaps ten tables, but a pretty ambitious menu that worked for everything we ordered. I started off with a great duck confit "cobb" salad that also had gorgonzola, applewood smoked bacon and toasted walnuts with a passionfruit viniagrette. Quite tasty, with all the flavors working well together. And unlike many salads it was almost underdressed, instead of the ussual over dressed pile of greens. FOr the main course, I hada great rack of lamb, cooked a perfect medium rare. It was in a flavorful red curry sauce with spicy israeli couscous on the side. THe leftovers the next day were even delicious. Desert was only ok, but I was full so it didn't matter much. Oh, and we had a delicious Turley Zinfandel. If I lived closer, I would definitely go here often.
Oh, I lso tasted the buffalo short ribs with creamy polenta. Only hada little bite but it was nice a nd rich and delicious.
