I'm starting a little book club, and we are looking for a cafe (or other type of place) in Manhattan where we can sit comfortably for a while, people can order food or just coffee, and the staff will leave us alone. The meeting will be at 1PM on a Sunday, so any place serving brunch will have too much turnover pressure. I'm thinking a cafe where you order at the counter (ie no table service) such as the Grey Dog.
Any other ideas? Our priorities are pleasant ambiance and lack of pressure to leave. Basically we need a living room away from home -- half of us live in Jersey and half in Queens/Brooklyn, so meeting in one of our apts is tough. Location could be anywhere, though preferred would be the west village (I love walking around the village on a sunday afternoon.)
