I'm not much of a frequent poster anymore, for the simple reason that I don't eat in restaurants very often these days, and am even more rarely impressed when I do.
Wound up having an impromptu lunch at Cafe Alexander.
Shrimp alfredo-- ordered with great trepidation, as I've almost never had good shrimp in a non-5-star joint. Not an orthodox alfredo, with tomato and asiago and lots of cream, but the shrimp was good. Most likely frozen, but no off flavor and the texture was pretty good. Sauce was well-flavored, and the pasta was perfectly cooked.
Also a breakfast burrito--just eggs with ham and sausage in a tortilla with salsa. Delicate, tasty. Not bad. Home fries were fairly okay.
Bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomato on very good sourdough toast. A lovely sandwich. Came with fries (curly, spicy, crisp, like Rally's!) and ordinary onion rings.
Espresso pancakes were light, tender, and mildly coffee-flavored. Best pancakes I've had that I didn't make. Get them with chocolate chips!
Tortilla soup--tasted like warm, thick Tito's salsa with a dollop of sour cream on top and scary red tortilla chips. Very good.
And, in case you're wondering what's with all the exclamation points, I had two large, damn tasty lattes.
And, in keeping with my obsession with coffee-spiked coke, I threw some coke in over the dregs of my second cup. CREAMY coffee-coke! Mmm!
