Cafe J

Anyone know what happened to Cafe J? This place on Church Street near 29th Street in San Francisco has received rave reviews for its pariatta (mixed seafood over risotto) and moderate prices (most entrees $14 or less).I am hosting a dinner for ten people there on June 12 and I fear I may have to make other plans as there is a sign on the door that reads, "We are closed until further notice. We decided we need a break." In spite of the unopened wine bottles on the bar, beverages in the glass refrigerator, and in tact furniture, I fear that this is yet another "temporary" closing that is going to become permanent and I suspect that fatigue may be the least of their troubles. It strikes me as extremely odd that they would not simply close for a vacation with a posted date for their re-opening. Does anyone know how I can get in touch with the owners? They have my phone number, but didn't bother to call me to warn me about the closing. When they took my reservation, I was handed a spiral bound notebook and asked to write down my name, phone number, date of reservation and number of people. I was concerned that they didn't use a calendar or more organized method of tracking reservations, but I figured it was just a small family restaurant. Their fax number has been disconnected and their phone number leads to a greeting announcing that they are closed until further notice and does not allow for messages to be left. Any information would be appreciated. Does anyone know how long the closed sign has been on the restaurant? It is undated. At this point, I'm not sure that I trust these folks enough to eat anything that comes out of their kitchen. Can anyone recommend a restaurant in SF (with good public transit access) that is special enough for a birthday celebration but is also moderately priced?
