Cacao Cafe - Naples

Professor Salt | Nov 10, 200401:23 PM

Perhaps I ought to get up to Long Beach more often. I go occassionally to restock my coffee larder at Polly's. It seems every time I drive down 2nd Street, there's some new shop that's opened up. Yesterday, I noticed Cacao Cafe for the first time, even though they've been open since June. Have any of the Long Beach hounds tried this place yet?

It's a chocolate & coffee bar with sandwiches, handmade chocolates, and some pastries. The air conditioning was out, so they did not have any chocolates due to the heat inside the place. Instead, I tried the plain hot cacao from their menu of three or four cacao drinks. Although they had a couple intersesting varations like one with ancho chili, I figured I'd taste the unadulterated thing this time. It was pleasant enough, but I was expecting a more intense hot chocolate like I make at home with milk, cream, and bittersweet Callebaut. A touch disappointing, but I'll find the will to live. Next time I'll try the handmade truffles if they're available.
