What's the Buzz on Outer Balboa?

Niki Rothman | Jun 14, 200610:41 AM     14

Recently, I saw a thread about Little Henry's where somebody, perhaps indefatigable eaters Robert Lauriston or rw orange, recommended more chow-worthy alternatives near the corner of Balboa and 41st. - the Panda Chinese restaurant and a Russian restaurant, and perhaps another one were mentioned.

Question: what's the name of the Russian Restaurant, and if you've eaten at any of these places, what are your favorite menu items?

P.S.
I'm always interested in hearing food news about this area - our extended family home is out there. I tried to reply on the Little Henry's thread but the board was down. So, I'll take this opportunity to throw in my two cents - Little Henry's is a serviceable Asian-run old-fashioned neighborhood Italian restaurant. The prices are very low, especially if you get the special - a big meal that could feature anything from pork chops and mash to veal parm. & spag. bol., depending on the day. The fried calamari is fine, as is the clam chowder - and by fine, I mean OK. I would order both on a cold day and be very happy.

Has anybody bitten the bullet and tried the new Hawaiian BBQ joint across from Little Henry's yet?
How about that candidate for most intriguing cultural mix in a restaurant: Vietnamese/Italian - which is a few blocks east on Balboa?

But, in any case - if you've read this far, my main questions: at Balboa & 41st. ave. - Panda Chinese rest., the Russian restaurant, and I think one more restaurant was mentioned: what's good?
