Instead of complaining about rising food costs, let's share some observations about what's still a good buy.
For example, I was at my local natural (almost all organic) grocery's produce section looking for something that wouldn't break the bank, and noted that while the loose beets were $1.79/lb, the bunched beets with the tops were $1.69/bunch, and the beets were pretty good sized. I bought a bunch, removed the tops, and weighed the beets: 1.1 pounds. So the beets alone were cheaper than the loose beets, plus I cooked the greens and got two generous servings out of them. Five+ servings of organic veggies for under $2 is a pretty good value.
