Where to buy (Asian) fish in San Antonio?

Stormhaven | May 29, 200904:54 PM

Hey Chowhounds,

I've been living in the San Antonio area for a little over a year now and I have yet to find any good Asian markets - especially when compared to Dallas, where I grew up. I'm searching for a good store - doesn't have to be Asian - but offers seafood which are usually considered "Asian," such as mackerel, sardines, blue crab, squid, octopus, etc. Needless to say, the fish needs to be fresh, and not "Americanized" - ie: I want the whole fish, not just the fillets.

I've checked all the usual suspects - the Whole Foods and Central Markets (and HEB Plus), but no go. They might sometimes have some of the items, but they're usually overpriced and never consistent. I've also checked a couple of the so-called Asian Markets, but most of them seem to have the fish frozen if they offer fresh items at all (most of the Asian markets around here seem to only offer dried or frozen goods, no meats/veggies at all).

Ideally what I'm searching for is a KoMart / Uwajiyama / Kazy's if you're familiar with those.

Is there any such place in SA, or am I just stuck with salmon all the time?
