Buttercup Pantry Restaurant & Bakery | Placerville

Melanie Wong | Sep 22, 201912:31 PM

The place was packed early Saturday morning in May. I was here for breakfast because Buttercup Pantry was less than a two-block walk from my hotel in the drizzle.

And, reputedly the best biscuits and gravy in town. Maybe so, yet I cannot recommend the B&G, shown here as the $12.95 country biscuit platter with a pair of eggs over easy. I’m not at all fat-phobic, yet the way the grease gushed out of the sausage patty with each bite was gross. Lofty but dense biscuits were much too heavy. The sausage gravy was a light style that might appeal to those who prefer milk over cream, however, not very flavorful. Hash browns ordered crispy were not.

On the way out I picked up a slice of pie to-go for later. But now more than four months later, I remember nothing about it. Guess that means it was not horrible, yet probably not life-altering good.

Anyone else have something to recommend here? Buttercup was founded in 1985 and is chockful of momentos. Service was very friendly.
