Unfortunately, I allowed a Demeyere Atlantis saucepan to dry out on a heated place. There is only a slight burn on the outside bottom of the pan, but the inside bottom has white blotching that I have been unable to remove, as shown in the attached photo. The first question is can someone tell me what this discoloration probably represents? I am guessing the heating of the top stainless layers may have redistributed some impurities (nickel?) up into the top part of the metal.
The second question is can I do anything to remove those stains? I have tried diluted acetic acid, baking soda, and bar keeper's friend. Those did nothing. Would a Demeyere Atlantis pan do okay with an undiluted acetic acid (white vinegar) overnight? I should have already learned my lesson from another thread where I ruined a lower quality pan, but could I try a 3% citric acid solution?
At this point, I am thinking I may have already altered the Silvinox treatment because of the burned plate. Not sure there is anything I could do chemically to re-establish the piece back to close to its original surface condition.
