No one was more excited than I to read the news that San Mateo's Best of Burma is opening a branch in downtown Santa Rosa. (And BTW, Eater published the wrong address in its echo.)
This morning I caught up with Cassandra Huang, the owner of the San Mateo restaurant, by phone. She was surprised to hear that word was out. The Santa Rosa location may open as early as the end of the month. She said they saw an opportunity and chose Sonoma County because there are no Burmese restaurants north of Marin. The menu will be similar to San Mateo's. Six experienced cooks and chefs from the San Mateo original who formerly worked for some of the Bay Area's most popular Burmese spots will relocate north for the opening. It will serve wine and beer with plans for a full bar in the future.
