Burgers on the peninsula?

Brad Kaplan | Apr 30, 200111:36 PM

My wife and I found ourselves craving a good burger yesterday and realized we have no idea where to get one around here (San Mateo) - are there any good chowhound spots for a burger south of san francisco? Yes, I do love In-n-Out, but there are times when I want something bigger, juicier, etc and want more of an atmosphere apropos to messy burger eatin.

We ended up at a place called Jukebox Cafe in San Mateo - the burger was barely satisfying (no seasoning, no char, just a basic flat griddle kinda job), but the chocolate shake was very good.

We did try the burger a while ago at some old italian place called joes (in san mateo off peninsula ave i think) that was pretty good, but the setting was just too weird for me - seemed like a grandparents special kinda place.

Never been to Dutch Goose, I'm sure there are some good dives out there that can make a mean burger (by the way, any place that cuts its own fries fresh is a bonus in my book, especially thin cut!)
