Burgers at Bistro

Ate at Bistro St. Marks tonight and was surprised to see hamburger on the menu. The waitress told us it had just been added in response to popular demand. I tried it and can report it is a winner. It was cooked medium, exactly as to order, a little charred on the top and juicy within. It wasn't gussied up in any way -- just good meat well prepared. It came on a toasted English muffin and melted cheddar cheese, accompanied by Bistro's usual fine pomme frites. They threw in a bit of iceburg lettuce, sliced tomato and red onion rings on the side (nothing special but welcome). Washed down with Brooklyn Lager, this made a most satisfying meal. Of course, being Bistro the burger was $13 -- but it's damned good. Congrats to Bistro for adding this comfort food fave to the menu, and carrying it off so well.
