Burgers, Beer and Atmosphere

I hope you'll bear with me for this question - I'm local, but don't really know downtown restaurants other than in Chinatown. A friend is coming in from out of town, and wants to go out on Friday evening at about 7pm. He's staying at a hotel on the Commons. I'm looking for a place within walking distance that has great burgers and beer (I originally wanted Chinatown, but his reaction told me that he's looking for something pub-ier.) I think most important is that the place is relaxed, where we can sit and talk and have some beers, where we won't feel pushed out by a crush of people waiting for tables.

I searched "burgers" and read here about BBSC, Sel de la Terre, Towne, and Cafeteria, but they all seemed not quite right. I looked at Pour House, but its website frightened me.

We could wing it and just try the nearest low-key place we stumble upon, but I'd rather have a destination where I know we'll have some good food and beverages.

Sel de la Terre
774 Boylston St., Boston, MA 02199

Pour House
907 Boylston St Ste 21, Boston, MA 02115
