Burger Orchard--Alameda

Shepherd B. Goode | May 16, 200205:04 PM

It's a little place in a residential neighborhood, tucked into one of those little retail clusters that hide all over Alameda. All they sell is burgers, burgers and fries, cheeseburgers and chiliburgers. And weenies. My 1/3 pound burger was medium rare as I ordered, not charred on the outside, maybe, but just right pinkish on the inside. Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and mayo, real mayonnaise, not "salad dressing". The fries are hand-sliced, long thin lengthwise slices of potato. The buns are from the grocery next door; and if the buns run low, why, you can stroll through the connecting door into the grocery and get some more. Iced tea in a styrofoam cup, burger and fries in separate baskets, all served up in about five minutes, I could not find anything to complain about. I wouldn't take off work and drive here from Palo Alto for it, maybe, or from Oakland. But if you're passing by, and it's lunchtime, you could do a lot worse.

Burger Orchard
