I died and went to heaven at the Burger Joint this weekend. The cheeseburgers I ate -- yes, plural cheeseburgers -- were awesome. One with "the works" (ketchup, mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion) was a bit gloppy but delicious. The one with fewer condiments was even better because I could taste the charcoal. My favorite part was that when I ordered the burger medium rare, it was ACTUALLY COOKED MEDIUM RARE, not the grey, overcooked, e-coli-fearing, sorry-ass excuse for hamburgers that most restaurants seem to have these days.
I would really recommend this place to burger hounds, especially at dinner time when it is not too busy. If you don't know already, it's at the Parker Meridien hotel, 118 W.57th between Sixth and Seventh. Very limited menu, just burgers ($4.50), cheeseburgers ($5.00), french fries, milk shakes, Sam Adams on tap.
