Burger bargain on 5th

Jim Hamilton | Sep 8, 2003 09:50 AM

Not sure if there has been chatter about this yet, but the new pub on 5th between Carroll and Garfield in the Slope (next to Aunt Suzie's) is FINALLY open. It's quite nice, if a hair on the frat boy side (though forgivably so). Three excellent and well-positioned TVs, if catching the game is your thing. Their menu is small, just burgers (beef, turkey, and veggie) and wings, at least for now. The burger is quite decent, and unpretentious -- relatively thin, served with paper silverware, etc. -- in a good way. It costs $7.95 (including a big pile of good fries), which is not exactly a huge bargain, but for the next few weeks they are running a weekend special where they throw in a free pint of excellent beer (15 flavors on tap) with each burger. Now THAT'S a bargain. The sign says "weekend brunch special," but they define brunch as before midnight, which is much appreciated. The kitchen, by the way, is open till 2am, which is great. The food at this place is not close to as good as Bonnie's (not that it's trying to be), but staying open till 2am (as compared to Bonnie's 11pm or so) gives it a lot of points in my book. Bottom line: check the place out, and do it in the next couple of weeks when you can get a good burger and a great beer for 8 bucks all weekend...
