Burger Bar in Mandalay Place

BMAK | Nov 4, 2005 10:10 AM

This was the best meal of my trip so far. I had a kobe burger, medium-rare on ciabatta with extra sharp cheddar and a side of thin fries. There is no doubt that this was the best burger I’ve had. I will definitely be keeping the Burger Bar in mind for future trips (and possibly more while I’m here). The beef melted in my mouth, the ciabatta and sharp cheddar were perfect complements to the flavorful beef, although with the kobe beef, there was no need for any complements; the burger alone would have been great. As I’ve read, the thin fries are delicious as well, served piping hot and nicely crispy. The one potential complaint was that the burger was slightly undercooked, but as I had been debating between rare and medium rare, this was not a problem for me. In fact, an undercooked medium rare or an overcooked rare is just perfect for my taste.

After finishing off the burger (it took 40 minutes, and not for the size), I still had room for a dessert. After looking over the menu again for dessert items, I decided I would be better served to go next door to the Chocolate Swan for the finale.

The service at the Burger Bar was excellent – contrary to what I’ve seen from other patrons. In addition, I was sitting by myself in a 4 person booth, not the ideal location for getting the best service. My server was very busy and occasionally took 2-3 minutes before refilling an empty glass, but nothing that was unreasonable. He was very helpful in selecting my menu item, although it was really only the choice of cheese that I was unsure of. I was amazed at how quickly the entrée was brought to the table, perfectly cooked and piping hot.
