Light soft buns, rather small, somewhat wispy, their textures probably indistinguishable from their brethern in Chinatown. First a salty umani anchovy filling, with all the good fishy flavours. Then a spiced plum, with the modest clear fruitiness of plum, enhanced slightly by dark spices perhaps a hint of clove or wood. Finally a oozy chocolate. Comes with a pot of tea; the Afternoon blend was ok if a little muted flavourwise; but for a nice change, never got to be astringent.
An ok deal at £10. While foodwise one could probably do better in Chinatown for less, the bar area was calm, quiet and comfortable (and slightly less clinical with the blue floors instead of all white); and the staff were lovely, from the friendly reception to the well timed refills of hot water from the server. Worth it if one desires the comfort and tranquility.
