Hey, new to Chowhound here. After having done some research, I found a great Bún chả and Chả cá restaurant in Montréal, QC. Pho Tay Ho is on ST-Denis near Beaubien, and has great Bun cha and cha ca...tons of fresh herbs, the meat is kick-ass, the fish is great...and really inexpensive. If you get the Bún chả to share, order an exta beef in Lá lốt leaves (5$ or 10$). If you order the Chả cá, make sure to ask for the Mắm tôm (fermented shrip paste sauce), if not ,they'll serve you nuoc cham if you're a white guy. You HAVE to eat the Cha ca with the shrimp sauce- it takes it to a whole other level of 'damn, that's amazing!' If you're adventurous, a great starter to share is the Bo tai chanh...raw marinated beef salad....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

I am now looking for a looking for an authentic bowl of Bún bò Huế. I spent a few months perfecting my home version. It's a unique blend of pork, beef, lemongrass, shrimp paste, and pineapple....that after cooking together goes through an alchemic transmuation to become an amazing soup. Check out the Wandering chopsticks blog.
I would like to try a restaurant version to compare. Anyone had a bowl recently? I get to Montreal a few times a year and need my Viet-fix.
