Bui's Dim Sum (St. Paul)

Chris Mitra | Mar 27, 2006 06:26 PM

We decided to try Bui's dim sum in St. Paul this past weekend, after reading the recommendation here from a few months ago.

Our experience was mixed. It seemed like the dumplings (shrimp, chive) and beef noodles were much too gooey. The eggplant/shrimp was very good, but cold. However, I think they had the best pork buns that I have had since coming to the Twin Cities (compared to Mandarin, Yummy). Big, fluffy, hot steamed buns with good flavor and good texture. In general, their other steamed buns also looked really good.

One strange thing was that we placed a special order for beef rice noodle rolls (cheong fun?), and it arrived with the beef undercooked. However, about 30 seconds later, the hostess noticed this (without us mentioning it) and brought us another.

Service was friendly. The place was actually pretty empty, which we thought strange for 1:00pm on a Saturday.

Maybe we just got unlucky? I think we still liked it enough to give it another try.
