Any recommendation? I remember we had pretty decent buffet at the Nugget last time...
I haven't made the rounds for the buffets in a long time, but usually your best bets are the Rotissiere at the Nugget, which you mentioned, Toucan Charlie's buffet at The Atlantis and the buffet at The El Dorado.
The nugget use to have a great seafood buffet on friday, shrimp and crab in season. On week ends they have the bloody mary bar.
I go to Reno once a month. My favorite buffets are at the Atlantis and the El Dorado. The Atlantis is somewhat hit or miss for me. They have Mexican and Chinese stations, a Mongolian grill, and the basic "American" choices. The carving station always includes prime rib. Of course, there are salads, soups, and deserts. Some times they have roast duck in their Chinese section (one of my favorites!), sometimes they don't.
Of course, they have special nights. I believe Wednesday is some type of steak deal (not a favorite). Friday (and I think Saturday) are seafood nights.
My favorite at the El Dorado is the mushroom ravioli, which they seem to always have (along with pizza and a mongolian grill).
Many people like the Peppermill, but I'm usually disappointed. There is an early bird special at the Peppermill on Thursday evenings (billed as a locals' special, but available to everyone).
Went to the Atlantas buffet on Tuesday Dec. 27th. I have been at the Atlantas many time during the last 20 years
Tuesday was the worst I have ever had. The salad bar was weak, the clam chowder was very good. The roast beef was dried out and the rest of the steam table offerings were fair to poor. The other thing is that the casino and restaurant was a cloud of smoke. I took my son his wife and children and we couldn't wait to get outside.
Everyone smelled like an ash tray. Their ventilation system was absolutely horrible. This is the end of any visits to the Atlantis. They recently renovated the buffet restaurant but obviously did nothing about the ventilaltion problems.
Horrible meal and evening. yuk
Have you been to El Dorado's "The Buffet"? They have some excellent dishes and great desserts, at least on the weekday lunch buffet. The mushroom ravioli, broasted chicken, orange mousse, lemon cake, and peanut butter cup brownies are dishes worth trying. Some of the food is just okay, like the french fries and the pizza, and the Asian and Mexican dishes are okay to good but not very authentic.
The dining room is comfortable and is not smoky or smoky-smelling at all (the casino area smells like smoke but is not smoky) and the staff is friendly and helpful. The price has gone up some when I went they had the old price still listed online. Apparently they can have long lines on the weekend but there it was not bad at all during the week.
Have you tried the King Chinese Buffet near the Atlantis? That is not bad for a Chinese buffet and has a good selection.
