buffet at india chaat and sweets

ericf | Sep 20, 200401:25 AM

I'm not sure how new this is, but I went this week for a late-ish lunch
(about 1:30) to give it a try. I'm afraid I did not pay really close
attention, but here's what I had:

spiced potato croquettes: I don't know what these are called, but I
enjoyed them.

Indian chow mein: I don't think they called it that, but it seemed to be
pan fried noodles with assorted vegetables stained with turmeric and
some other spices. Ok. thickish soft noodles, not crispy.

Sauteed Okra: wetter than the versions I've had at Priya, but not really
"wet." Good.

Cauliflower: in turmeric. Okay.

Goat Curry: Very good. Rich gravy from the bones, marrow, and connective
tissue from long cooking. The version at Priya these days is not cooked
long enough, and so is a little chewy and not as rich.

Saag paneer. Good, typical.

Things they had I didn't try: Naan in warmer, tandoori chicken (ran out
quick, slow to replenish, though admittedly late in the lunch period...
they say the buffet is open till 4 or so), chicken tikka or makhani,
papadams, several sweet selections which I know nothing about.

There were probably other things as well.

Overall, I'd probably go back to check it out again, but still like
Priya a lot, and generally prefer it.
