We've dined at these two places on alternate weeks in an effort to compare/contrast. Both are BYO. Both are inexpensive. Both menus are pretty basic: salads, pasta, All' Angolo has pizza, two or three dessert offerings. The takeaway was that both are solid while neither is excellent (for the price). Half of us liked MR while the other half preferred A'A.
I think Maccheroni Republic has the edge in depth of flavor in their sauces while All' Angolo has a bit more variety on the menu and their pizzas are uniformly tasty. MR has faster, more professional service and a nicer location - once you're inside - the street location ain't exactly pretty.
